2009 National American Miss Oregon Jr. Pre-Teen Queen Madeline Monlux Farewell

Hi Girls!

Get ready for an exciting and fun filled pageant!  It seems like only yesterday that my reign began! My year as Miss Oregon Junior Pre Teen has been a blast and an honor.  When they called my name as Miss Oregon, I was so shocked and thrilled at the same time.

This year I have traveled throughout the state of Oregon, participated in parades and festivals and volunteered for many different organizations and community groups.  One of my favorite activities this year was being invited as a special guest to the Oregon Humane Society “America’s Next Top Dog Model” competition, where I got to sell raffle tickets and talk on the stage.  I also enjoyed volunteering for the Oregon Humane Society by making handmade dog biscuits.

Attending nationals in California was awesome!  I met some great new friends and got to go to Disneyland!!  I spent a day on the Hollywood tour and we went to the Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica beach!  At nationals, I competed and placed in the top five in the Actress and Spokes model competitions! I had a blast and will never forget nationals!

My year would not have been so fantastic without my sister queens- you girls rock and don’t forget, we are all the “Juicy Couture Girls”!!!  Matt Leverton, thank you for all of your support and kindness- you are the BEST! To the NAM staff- You make everyone feel like a STAR- thank you for putting on such a wonderful program.  Oma and Papa- thank you for your unending support and love. Bailey- Thank you for always cheering me on and making me laugh.  Mom and Dad- You always believe in me and you are the best parents ever!

As my year comes to an end, I take with me a lifetime of fond memories that I will always treasure! As you compete this weekend, remember that the true mark of a winner is she who works hard, tries her best and celebrates the success of all contestants! Make the most of this weekend and be proud of your accomplishments!

Love,

Madeline Monlux,

2009 National American Miss Oregon Princess Gabriella Torkornoo – Farewell

Wow! Thank you National American Miss, this had been an exciting year!  Being Miss Oregon Princess Queen 2009/2010 gave me so many great memories and changed my life.  Here are just some of my memories: My sister Queens and I served lunch at the Ronald McDonald house.  I was a Greeter for the Oregon State Fair on opening day and in the evening I had the honor of giving out blue ribbons at a horse show.  I also served food to the homeless in Eugene during an event called “Under the Bridge”.  Going to the Nike Campus was a true honor.  I even got to meet Mr. Phil Knight the president and co-founder of Nike, and do my personal introduction for him!  These are just a handful of wonderful experiences I had while representing National American Miss and my great State of Oregon.

To all of the Girls at this years pageant, I am so looking forward to meeting you all!  National American Miss is so fun and exciting and the experience is one that can change your life.  Last year I learned a lot through my experience including how to present myself on stage, how to be interviewed, and so many more life skills that have already come in handy even at age 5.  I hope all of the best for you, please remember to have fun, and most importantly be your true self because everyone is made to be unique.

Sincerely,

Gabriella Torkornoo

2009 National American Miss Oregon Jr. Teen Queen-Summer Pilcher-Farewell

Hey Girls!

Get ready for one of the most exciting experiences of your life!  This weekend opens new doors that hold great opportunities for you.  You will make best friends, have fun, and shine like the beautiful person you are.  I hope this weekend will be all that you dreamed of.  It’s been such an amazing privilege to be Miss Jr Teen Oregon 2009- 2010.  This past year I have had the opportunity to be a positive role model for my younger peers.  One of the highlights of my year was going to Nationals in California.  I met so many new girls and became good friends with many of them.  A day in Disneyland, a tour of Hollywood, and shopping at Rodeo Drive.

Representing as Miss Oregon this summer I was able to do tons of community service. I worked with my chamber of commerce and Hands on Portland to clean up local parks and forest. I also feed the less fortunate every other Sunday.  But none of this would have been possible without the support of my family! To my NAM Family, Matt, thanks so much for being an awesome director!  My fellow Queen Sisters thanks for being there for me and always making me feel great.  I love you girls! Finally, to all the contestants: enjoy every part of this weekend, it goes by in a flash.  Be yourself and try new things because this is one weekend you don’t want to miss out on.  Thank you for making me the luckiest girl to have the opportunity to have had this title, to have tried new thingsm and to represent NAM was truly an amazing gift.

Sincerely,

 Summer Pilcher

Hey Matt!

I hope all is well with you! I just wanted to update you on the 2010 Memory Walk that I participated in. We had a great turn out of people! My team was just as large as last year, which was a great accomplishment considering the rain that we experienced 🙂 All together, the walk has raised $60,000 so far. We are still receiving donations, so I am very excited to hear the final tally of the money that my team raised! I have a attached some pictures from the event. I will keep you updated on our success! I am so looking forward to this summer! Please let me know the dates of your other pageants, whenever you finalize them. I would love to attend and help out in any way that I can! Have a blessed week! God bless!

Meet your National American Miss Oregon Teen-Kelli McBee

Meet your National American Miss Oregon Teen-Kelli McBee

Kelli McBee refuses to be labeled a “pageant girl.”

Her recent crowning as Miss Oregon Teen, she insists, is simply a small slice of her fast-paced and exuberant life.

Kelli, a recent Pendleton High School graduate, speaks the truth. Most of us would grow weary simply reading her resume. In high school, she played volleyball, ran track, danced, held office, sang and volunteered – all while building a 4.3 grade-point average.

Kelli’s foray into the pageant world gives a glimpse into the teenager’s power-packed spirit and her zest for achievement.

Her first pageant at age 15 was a bit of a fluke. When an invitation to the Miss Oregon Junior Teen came in the mail, she dismissed it as ostentatious and narcissistic. The more she thought about it, however, the idea grew in appeal as a way to strengthen her communications skills. The challenge was getting her parents, Dr. John and Debbie McBee, to agree.

“I begged and pleaded with my parents, who politely said no,” she said.

Debbie McBee confessed her image of pageants was of a glitzy skin-deep focus on glamor, little girls wearing heavy makeup. Kelli, however, saw more than the glam. She championed the competition as a confidence builder, a way to hone speaking ability.

“In the end we decided to let her give it a try,” Debbie said.

Finally, with her parents’ reluctant blessing, Kelli practiced walking gracefully, using the family’s gravel driveway as a catwalk. She videotaped herself and practiced looking poised in front of the mirror. She had her family pepper her with questions and used her Golden Retriever as an audience for her introductory remarks.

Kelli surprised everyone at that first pageant by winning both the title and a shot at nationals. This spring, she did it again, this time as Miss Oregon Teen. She represented Oregon at nationals in Anaheim, Calif., this past November.

Her father served as her escort during the formal wear competition. As they waited in the wings, he cracked jokes to keep her calm.

On the last night of the pageant, judges identified ten finalists by handing them roses. Rose in hand, Kelli forced herself to keep smiling during the next portion of the program which “took an eternity,” amid soap bubbles and musical numbers. As the crown was finally placed on her head, relieved joy washed over her.

“I was overwhelmed with happiness,” Kelli said. “Of course, I cried.”

The announcer also revealed winners of sub-competitions. Kelli won or was runner-up in several, but none meant more than winning first runner-up for the volunteer service award. Calling herself a firm believer in the power of service, the teen said she loves to dream up and carry out community projects.

She created “Diplomas Matter,” a drop-out prevention program for at-risk eighth graders. Kelli and several other students visit with middle school students about their passions and what types of careers they could consider.

Kelli also started “Birthday Bags for Foster Kids,” after reading an East Oregonian story about increasing numbers of foster children. She collected hundreds of gift items, wrapped them and placed them in bags to distribute to foster kids on their birthdays.

Currently, she is conducting a book drive for soldiers.

“She’s one of our legends,” said Vickie Read, a PHS counselor. “…When she does something, it’s always going to impact other people. At her young age, she is truly a humanitarian.”

Kelli quotes Mac Anderson who said, “People are like sticks of dynamite – the power’s on the inside, but nothing happens until the fuse gets lit.”

“I am a big dreamer,” she says, “and my fuse has been lit.”

Kelli is currently studying communications and public relations at Boston College.

Mallory Ervin former National American Miss Kentucky Queen takes home 4th runner-Up at Miss America that was televised live from the Planet Hollywood Hotel in Las Vegas.

Her night started off right when she was announced as one of the “viewers choices” for the Top 15.  From there she rock the stage in swimsuit.  She then appeared in her stunning red strapless evening gown.

After a nail biting wait her name was finally called to make it to the next round of competition to perform her talent “On My Own” from the Broadway play Les Miserables.  This is also the stellar voice that took home that National American Miss national talent title at the 2005 national pageant.  Showing her grace, poise and composure she then was called out for the on stage question.

With that it was off to the naming of the top 5.  With hearts pounding Mallory was called as 4th runner-up!

We are all so proud of Mallory!

What is the National American Miss Open Call?

What is the National American Miss Open Call?

The open call is an information session where you will  hear all about the National American Miss Pageant.  Our program is a lot different and we are proud of it, so we like to have people come meet us, see some video and hear about the pageant.

While at the open call you will watch a short presentation about the pageant, you will receive information about the pageant that you can take home, you will fill out an application, and you will sit with one of our staff people for a brief interview.  The Open Call is 100% free to attend!

The whole event will take about an hour.  You will want to bring a picture or snapshot of yourself, a school picture is fine, and a note pad if you would like to take notes.

See you there!

~Matt
